Milestones & Dates
Our Savior Lutheran Church and School, 1601 W. Holmes Road, Lansing, MI, held its first worship service on September 9, 1956. The focus of the charter members was to worship their gracious Heavenly Father and to provide a Christian education for children. Vibrant ministries of the school and church continue today to people all over the greater Lansing area.
On September 20, 2003, the congregation voted to embark on a bold program of renewal and expansion including relocation. A 33 acre building site at the corner of Broadbent Road and St. Joseph Highway was selected. The building site is located in a rapidly growing area with over 100 current housing starts within a 5 mile radius.

On February 4, 2004, a new sign publicizing the relocation was planted at the proposed building site. On February 20, 2004, a Ground Blessing service of praise was held on the snow covered property. Words from the story of Jacob in Genesis 28:16,17, added inspiration to the event. "Surely the Lord is in this place....How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven!"
Our Savior members and many guests celebrated at a Freedom Festival worship service on June 27, 2004. Hymns, songs of praise and prayers for our nation rang out from a huge tent erected on the building site. Those serving our country, past and present, were remembered in prayer.
Following the Freedom Festival worship service, crowds lined up to enjoy a pizza picnic on the pleasant tree lined building site.
Telling the next generation about our wonderful Savior is what this bold building project is all about. It is our prayer that people of all ages will rejoice in the freedom from sin found in our Savior, Jesus! "But as for me, I will always have hope...My mouth will tell ...of Your salvation all day long!" Ps. 71:14,15.
