The kindergarteners are happy to have this beautiful warm weather. It was fun for them to play outside today without coats. Oh, the freedom it brings to be unburdoned of all the “equipment” they have been layering on these last many months. As the teacher, I like the part about not having to zip up jackets, help put on boots, and push the mittens and gloves over little hands. We have more time to spend outside since we don’t have to take three-quarters of our recess just to get ready to go!
Yes, welcome spring!

We have been enjoying ourselves in Kindergarten this week. On Monday we came dressed as our favorite storybook characters. We had Bob the Builder, the knight from The Twelve Dancing Princesses, Angelina Ballerina, Thing One, Ralphie from The Magic Schoolbus, and The Cat in the Hat and others. We enjoyed our guest author, Grandma Janet Mary, who spoke of her experience as a grandmother.
On Tuesday we dressed in green to signify that we are growing in Christ here at Our Savior Lutheran School. We are blessed to pray daily and learn about the Bible’s teachings. We try to make practical applications of the Bible to our daily lives to support what we as Christians should do. Yes, we are growing in Christ.
On Wednesday we dressed in our finest and wore symbols of our Christianity. We used these outward symbols to reflect that we are God’s children.
I like Lutheran Schools Week because it gives us an opportunity to showcase the value of Christian education. Yes, I like to think we offer a great education to our students; but it is more than that. It is an opportunity to prepare children for a life in Christ in a world that seems to ignore the need for Jesus as our Lord and Savior. I praise and thank all of our parents for their desire to let us assist them in teaching our students about our best Friend.
Thursday is School Spirit Day. We will either dress in blue and white or wear our Our Savior clothing. In the afternoon we will visit the residents at Somerset Apartments to sing some of our favorite songs.
Friday is the day to wear clothes to reflect our favorite college teams. Go Blue! No, Go Green! No, Go Red or Yellow or Purple or Orange! Whatever it is, go,go go!

We had a fun time at our party on Wednesday. We started by putting the highly popular valentines into our handmade boxes. For the most part, they made it into the correct boxes. Some even had candy attached! We played Valentine Bingo, ate tasty treats, and opened our valentines. A good time was had by all! Moms were on hand to make it special, too. Thank you to all who helped!
We celebrated 100 days of school on Thursday. We each brought 100 items to put into a tasty mix to share. We made a centipede out of snap cubes to equal 100. We did 100 exercises, too. We drew pictures of ourselves at 100 years of age. By the time school was out, I was almost ready for a 100 minute nap!

We’ve come to the end of a busy week. By not having school on Monday, the students came back with plenty of enthusiasm on Tuesday. Since the temperatures were too cold to be outside for more than 15 seconds at a time, we stayed indoors for recess. Yikes. Anyway, we learned about Zacchaeus in our Bible lesson. What a guy! You can see our “armprint” trees in the hallway outside our classroom. Play money was a good way to demonstrate how he paid back the victims of his cheatin’ heart. We continued to keep working on such things in math as fair shares and what constitutes halves. We are also reviewing our letter sounds and sight words.
In recognition of Dental Health Month, some of our classmates are getting loose teeth. That is big news in our class. Due to inflation, the Tooth Fairy is getting quite generous nowadays!
We are getting ready for Valentine’s Day, too. Today we covered our cereal boxes and shoe boxes with red paper and decorated them for collecting the treasured cards at next week’s party. Have you ever seen kindergartners use sequins?
Our one hundredth day of school would have been on Valentine’s Day this year, but because of our “Cold” day, it will be the next day, Thursday. Our class is going to bring 100 each of something to put into a mix that we can eat at snack time. Nutritious may not be the best way to describe it, but it will be good! God bless your week!

What a busy but fun week we have had! We learned about the first Thanksgiving. We made turkeys and pilgrims. We talked about what it was like on the Plimouth Plantation. We talked about all that we can be thankful for in our world. To celebrate our friendships, we made Friendship Salad for our snack on Wednesday. Each of us brought a piece of fruit to wash, cut up, and mix together in a big bowl to have for snack. It was wonderful. Best of all, we were thankful to have our friend, Avery, come back for the first time in two weeks. Our daily prayers were answered! Thank you, Jesus, for friends!

This has been a busy week. In our Bible lesson we learned how Hannah prayed for a child. She promised God that she would give her son, Samuel, to God by taking him to the temple to live with Eli. Samuel became a prophet. He listened to God speak to him.
We make lots of patterns in our class. We like to make graphs, too. We make a graph almost every day.
November 10 is the birthday of Martin Luther. To make the day special we heard about his life and worked on projects. We had cupcakes and “praying monk” pretzels to celebrate.
To learn about Veterans Day, we had a special guest dad visit our class and tell us about what veterans are and the faithful service they have given our country. We learned about respect for one another and love for our country.
Next week will bring more learning. Stay tuned.

We had a great time at the pumpkin patch. Mr. Krause greeted us and took the students on a wagon ride out to a field of many child-sized pumpkins. The mud did not stop any of the students from running to the opposite side of the field to find the best orange gourds. They managed to find the best ones in very little time. That gave us plenty of time for another ride around the “farm.” We went back to school with our pumpkins and plenty of mud. As our janitor Mr. Barnum says about the mud, “It’s job security!”
We had another great experience on Friday when we went to Wharton Center to see “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie and Other Story Books.” We saw six actors give us delightful retellings of some of our favorite stories and some that were new to us. Since the PTL provided a bus for us to ride there and back, we had fun on the bus too. There is something very exciting about riding a bus for the first few times!
A fun party is coming up this week. It involves costumes, a parade, and some tasty snacks. Hmm, I wonder what that would be…

Today we resumed our normal schedule after having a long weekend off. What a week we had last week! We were pretty excited about Grandparents Day and made preparations for a fun morning. After the concert in church began our day, we brought our special people back to our classrooms for a glimpse of what Kindergarten is like. (Well, not really, because we were “revved up” a bit more than usual!) The students introduced their grandparents to each other. Then these little thespians donned masks and performed “The Bremen Town Musicians” complete with authentic animal sounds! They performed well by the sound of applause from our kind audience. The students then showed how well they understand patterns by making a simple project with their grandparents. When they finished a quick snack, it was time for the closing worship in church. What a blessed day!
We look forward to a trip to Mr. Krause’s pumpkin patch and a performance of “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” at Wharton Center. Of course, the bus ride will be half the fun!

This week we will be learning about the shepherd David. He played his harp to the delight of not only his sheep but to King Saul as well.
We are also continuing to write numbers correctly in math and are learning the sound of letter M.
Many thanks to those who have driven on our field trips. So far our drivers have been Mrs. Howell, Mrs. Morrison, Mrs. Pesino, Mr. Hayes, Mrs. Moldenhauer, and Mrs. DeLong. I appreciate your support!
